Front Street Animal Shelter's free voucher is only for people inside the Sacramento city limits - the city states in capitals that Sacramento County residents are NOT eligible - and applicants are told to confirm their jurisdiction in the Sacramento County Parcel Viewer before applying. County residents go instead to the Community Spay Neuter Clinic and Bradshaw Animal Shelter on Bradshaw Road.

Who qualifies: Open to the public with no income test - a 501(c)(3) non-profit clinic. Prepayment for surgery is required at the time of scheduling, and failure to arrive for a surgical appointment may result in loss of the prepayment. Feral and community cats are accepted, but you must call (530) 889-8800 BEFORE you start trapping.

In Auburn, roughly 35 miles from downtown Sacramento, but listed by the City of Sacramento as one of two partner spay/neuter clinics on its Spay and Neuter Clinics page. Dog surgery is currently unavailable: the clinic's dog page at animalspayneuter.com/services/dogs-spay-neuter states it is closed for new male and female dog spay/neuter appointments and is unable to maintain a waiting list, and that it has not performed surgery on dogs weighing more than 60 pounds since January 1, 2025. Cat appointments are booked by leaving one voicemail on (530) 889-8800 and waiting for a call back. There is no additional charge for cats in heat or pregnant, and pain medication given at the time of surgery is included in the surgical price; brachycephalic cats may incur an extra $50 intubation fee and obese cats an extra $20.
