Las Vegas has three high-volume nonprofit spay/neuter clinics and one 24-hour hospital that publishes a flat price list. Heaven Can Wait Animal Society on North Eastern Avenue is the cheapest for cats at $80 for a neuter and $110 for a spay, and runs the valley's only walk-in community-cat clinic at $65 a cat. Hearts Alive Village charges $130 for a cat neuter and $50 for an exam at both its Decatur and Nellis clinics, and the Spay & Neuter Center of Southern Nevada on West Sahara runs a walk-in vaccine clinic every day with no office visit or exam fee. The Animal Foundation, the largest shelter in the valley, no longer does public spay/neuter at all - its Low-Cost Vet Clinic is limited to vaccines, microchipping and owner-requested euthanasia.

What is specific to Las Vegas
- The Animal Foundation on North Mojave Road is the name everyone in Las Vegas knows, but it is not a spay/neuter option. Its own page states the Low-Cost Vet Clinic 'provides affordable vaccines and microchipping for owned pets, but cannot provide medical care outside of that scope.' For surgery you have to go to Heaven Can Wait, Hearts Alive Village or a low-cost private practice.
- Microchipping is mandatory here and the deadline depended on which jurisdiction you live in. The City of Las Vegas ordinance (Chapter 7.15) took effect 1 August 2024 for all dogs and cats over four months old; unincorporated Clark County's requirement under CCC 10.08.070(b) took effect 4 August 2025.
- Clark County bought 10,000 microchips and pays three nonprofits - Hearts Alive Village, Heaven Can Wait and the Nevada SPCA - to implant them for $5. The identical chip costs $35 at The Animal Foundation and $25-$30 at Hearts Alive Village's Decatur clinic, so which door you walk through changes the price sevenfold. Heaven Can Wait requires you to confirm Clark County residency to get the $5 rate.
- Heaven Can Wait is one of the only clinics in Las Vegas taking community cats, and it is walk-in rather than appointment: Monday to Thursday drop-off, first come first served, with a daily intake cap that is usually 75 cats. Once capacity is reached for the day trappers are turned away, and cats must arrive in a TruCatch trap.
- Sterilisation is also required by code. The Las Vegas Valley Humane Society states that dogs, cats, ferrets, pet rabbits and potbellied pigs must be sterilised by four months of age unless the owner holds a breeder/show permit, has a veterinarian's letter saying the animal cannot be sterilised, or the animal is used by a law enforcement agency.
How low-cost vet clinics decide who they will treat
Low-cost veterinary care in the US is rationed two ways: by proof and by queue. Free clinics ask you to prove you qualify. Flat-rate clinics charge everyone the same reduced price and ration by how far out the calendar is booked.
Proof of public assistance, not a means test
Most free clinics do not ask for pay stubs. They ask to see a card: Medicaid, SNAP or WIC, SSI, SSDI, TANF, public-housing tenancy, or a state EBT card. If you hold one of those, you are in. If you are poor but enrolled in none of them, you are usually out — which is the single most common reason applicants get turned away.
ZIP-code gating
Clinics funded to serve a specific neighborhood check your address before your income. Living one block outside the boundary disqualifies you regardless of what you earn. Check the ZIP list before you book anything.
What free clinics actually do
The free tier is overwhelmingly spay/neuter, core vaccines and microchipping. Sick-animal care, dentistry, imaging and surgery are far scarcer, usually run by a nonprofit hospital or a subsidy fund attached to a full-price hospital rather than by a free clinic.
Appointments, waitlists and lotteries
Walk-in low-cost care barely exists. Expect appointment-only booking, prepayment, and in the case of mobile clinics a same-day waitlist that opens early in the morning and fills within minutes. Signing up is not the same as having a slot.
